Into the Aegean Sea, 07/02-07/05, 2023

We are now in the Aegean Sea, continuing onward to Santorini and neighboring islands. Notice how the topography has changed from the beautiful, dense green vegetation to brown, pumice looking land with hardly any plant life. “Pueblo” was the word that came to mind once seeing the stark white houses against the dull earth.

(07/03-05) Because of its close proximity to Athens, the bay at Kolona Beach, Kythnos, is a popular one. The thin strip of white sand, sandwiched between aqua blue water, connects Kythnos to the islet of Agios Loukas. According to “BeachSearcher,” the beach places 122th out of 1021 beaches in the South Aegean region best to visit. This tiny beach is home to the Kolona Restaurant with its beach bar, chaise lounge chairs with umbrellas, and a open aired restaurant immersed in Greek music while presenting remarkable views of the Aegean Sea. It was nice to hear regional music besides the American remakes we have heard, mostly in France, Italy, and a bit into Greece. One negative point about the area are the flies and bees. They are big and they are everywhere!! Incidentally, if do not have access to a boat to get there, water taxis will be happy to transport you to the small paradise.

It truly was a unique place to visit. Happy Fourth of July!
