Into Greece and Corfu, 06/19-06/20, 2023

Another stressful day finally landed us in Greece. After passing Albania, the winds shifted, we had trouble letting a sail out, it slightly ripped (a small tear), and then we had an issue with furling it back in. Dropping anchor never felt better.

The next day (06/20), we stayed in a marina in Corfu to regroup and obtain the necessary paperwork for the boat to be in Greece. All countries require different documentation for a boat of another country to be in their country. We also needed another new SIM card. It is easier to purchase one in each country rather than rely on the international SIM card data plans.

Corfu is known for its mixture of architecture styles. There is a Byzantine fortress, several 19th century neoclassical British buildings, Orthodox church towers, and Parisian style arches. In the Venetian Old Town you can find spotlessly, clean squares with cafes, sunny roads with shops, and paths to the beach. The parks are stunning. We indulged in a wonderful lunch complete with the Greek specialty of mushroom fricassee. Greek salads here are chopped tomatoes, peppers, onions, red onion, olives, and feta, swimming in a light, delicious marinade. The pasta dishes are served minus the heavy, red Bolognese sauce but with blistered cherry tomatoes, seasonings, and olive oil.
