We have traveled to Sardinia, one of the larger islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Overall, our voyage was about 26 hours, we sailed 160 nautical miles with the sea illuminated by a full moon. Since it was a full moon, the stars were not as nearly brilliant but it made navigating the dark water that much easier. Thankfully, our sail was non-eventful; even the winds cooperated. Sardinia is known for its fascinating rock formations and sandy, rather than pebbly, beaches.
(10/03) After resting from our overnight sail and catching up on chores, we sailed over to a marina in Cagliari, the capital of Sardenia. The bustling city is known for its hilltop Castello which is a medieval walled area overlooking the town. We climbed up the “no telling how many” stairs of the Bastion Saint Remy, a landmark structure with a limestone arch and several pillars, to embrace the late afternoon, dusk view. And what a sight it was!
We relished our short stay in the capital city; complete with fabulous fish and pasta dinners, sampling local white wines, and espresso. And, no matter where we are, no night would be complete without a nightcap at a roof top bar. A perfect ending.
